AIM Research and Development Director Katelyn Wells recently co-published a new manuscript on digital media coverage and HPV school-entry requirements in Puerto Rico. The paper, “Content Analysis of Digital Media Coverage of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine School-Entry Requirement Policy in Puerto Rico” has been published in BMC Public Health. Results showed that 61% of the news articles examined did not mention the number of required HPV doses for school-entry and 79% discussed the new policy regarding cancer prevention.
Qualitative themes included infringement to patient and parental autonomy, hesitancy from the political sector and from groups/coalitions, knowledge and acceptance of the HPV vaccine for cancer prevention, the importance of education and protective sexual behaviors, and the new vaccination law proposal.
