Eastern Michigan University/Center for Health Disparities Innovations and Studies: Utilizing Listening Sessions to Assess COVID-19 Vaccine Acceptance among Asian Americans in Michigan

View a published paper created by teams at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) and the Center for Health Disparities Innovations and Studies (CHDIS) detailing the listening sessions they held for six Asian ethnic groups (Bangladeshi, Burmese, Filipino, Korean, Yemeni, and Japanese) widely represented in Southeast Michigan. Through the listening sessions, EMU and CHDIS learned how COVID-19 impacted communities and how participants and their communities viewed COVID-19 vaccines. The teams created resources and programs to clarify misconceptions and increase access to COVID-19 vaccines using information gathered from the listening sessions. Researchers chose a virtual listening session format, allowing participants more anonymity, answer questions in their own home, experience more safety than meeting in person, and sacrifice less time.
