The New York State Department of Health mailed centralized reminder recall letters statewide (excluding NYC) to parents and guardians of boys and girls ages 11-13 years old who had either initiated but not yet completed the HPV vaccine series or who had not yet initiated the HPV vaccine series. Immunization status and mailing addresses were determined using IIS data, and addresses were validated using LexisNexis. Receipt of vaccine was monitored in the IIS. Evaluation results show that those receiving the letter were more likely to initiate, receive a second dose, or complete the series than those who did not get a letter.
